Facial Injectable Treatments

Neurotoxins

Neurotoxins are injectable neuromodulators designed to relax muscles and reduce wrinkle lines. With over 6 million treatments done each year, this quick and easy procedure has become the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment in our country. These treatments have become an essential part of maintaining a youthful appearance in hundreds of our patients.

The most commonly treated areas include:

  • Frown lines (commonly referred to as the 11’s between your eyebrows)
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet (lines lateral to your eyes)

These products are also used to:

  • Lift and shape eyebrows
  • Reduce bunny lines (lines on the side of your nose)
  • Decrease chin dimpling
  • Slim your jawline

Description of Treatment:

After a consultation, your medical provider will perform a series of small injections in the planned treatment area. A typical treatment can be done in about 10 minutes. About 7-14 days after your treatment, the medicine will have relaxed the targeted muscle, and the wrinkle lines caused by the contraction of that muscle will slowly disappear.

Common Questions

Does it hurt?

Pain is minimal which is one reason why the treatment is so popular.

How long does it last?

Results typically last 3-4 months, but studies have shown that consistent maintenance of treatments can eventually lead to results lasting up to 6 months.

Can I go back to work after treatment?

There is no downtime with this treatment other than a very low risk of bruising.

Is it safe?

Yes! Many neurotoxin brands are FDA approved and are being safely used in the US over 6 million times each year.

What other cosmetic treatments are most commonly combined with Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins have many uses in addition to those described above, but are not the best treatment to eliminate deep lines or skin folds, add volume to lips, or maximize the volume and contour of your cheek bones. These are best achieved with dermal fillers — a perfect supplementation to your neurotoxin treatment. For more information, please see our section on dermal fillers.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are products that are injected below the surface of the skin to boost volume, lift the skin to soften deeper wrinkles and skin folds, and contour the face to restore a more youthful appearance. As we age, our skin becomes thinner, our face loses some of the fat and bone that helped give definition to our cheeks and other areas of the face, and the skin begins to sag. All this leads to the characteristic changes of an aging face. Dermal fillers help reverse these changes. You can think of them as a non-surgical face lift.

Fillers are most commonly used to:

  • Augment cheek bones and restore volume to the mid face
  • Soften nasolabial folds (smile lines running from your mouth to your nose)
  • Shape and plump the lips
  • Fill in vertical lip lines (smoker’s lines)
  • Smooth etched-in wrinkles on the face
  • Augment the chin and provide definition to the jaw line

Types of Fillers

There are numerous types of fillers, each with their own unique properties designed to address specific treatment needs. Some are firmer allowing them to provide volume and lift, while others are much thinner, perfectly suited to fill fine lines. Most fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid which are sugars naturally found in the skin that help provide hydration, fullness, and elasticity. Examples of hyaluronic acid fillers used at our office include Restylane, Restylane Lyft, and Restylane Silk.

Radiesse is another type of filler composed of calcium-based microspheres. It works by providing immediate volume correction followed by stimulation of the body to produce natural collagen.

Description of Treatment

During your consultation, you and your medical provider will decide which fillers to use based on the desired results. The filler is injected with a small needle into the treatment area. Treatments typically take 15-60 minutes depending on the amount of filler used.

Common Questions

Does it hurt?

Numbing agents are mixed into the filler making this a very well tolerated procedure. Certain areas such as the lips may require additional numbing in some patients.

Can I go back to work after treatment?

There may be mild swelling or bruising for a few days after the treatment, but otherwise you can return to most normal activities immediately.

When will I see results?

Immediately! This is one of the benefits of the treatment.

How long will the results last?

Depending on the type of filler used and the location, results typically last between 6 months and 2 years.
